Michelle Mowery is the Sr. Bicycle Coordinator in the Los Angeles Department of Transportation’s (LADOT) Bicycle Program. She has been with LADOT’s Bicycle Program for over 17 years and works with the City’s engineering and planning staff on the implementing of the City’s 2010 Bicycle Plan.
Adopted by City Council in March of 2011, the Plan’s primary purpose is to increase, improve and enhance bicycling in Los Angeles through the build out a bikeway network of 1680 miles and development of support programs and legislation in Los Angeles. Michelle’s group, Bicycle Outreach and Planning, is responsible for the Bicycle Plan’s policy implementation including bicycle parking, encouragement, legislation, mapping, and social media as well as working with the public and engineering staff in the development of the bikeway networks.
A founding board member of the California Bicycle Coalition and former USA Cycling bicycle racer, Michelle is a native Southern Californian and learned to ride at age four, her first bike was a purple Schwinn Stingray.
