We have taken a 1994, class 8 International 8100 truck that was on its way to auction, and re-powered it with a new engine and a system that is a true liquid propane, liquid phase injection system. Liquid phase injection systems do not use a converter, vaporizer or mixer, but instead deliver the liquid fuel into a fuel rail in much the same manner as a gasoline injection system. These systems are still very much in their infancy. Because the fuel vaporizes in the intake, the air around it is cooled significantly. This increases the density of the intake air and leads to substantial increases in engine power output, to the extent that such systems are usually de-tuned to avoid damaging other parts of the engine. Liquid phase injection achieves increased fuel economy and power plus lower emission levels than are not possible using mixers or vapor phase injectors.
Our newly re-powered truck now has the same horse power, and a little bit more torque than the original engine that came out of it. It has the same transmission and instruments as OEM. It has an OBD II system installed for easy computer inspections. We wanted to show how fleets can utilize their existing trucks and re-power them. Instead of the options: taking a loss when selling them or purchasing new trucks that still run on diesel or the less powerful alternative options currently available. We can also install our systems on brand new OEM trucks as well. Our truck is Port entry legal, and is classified as an alternative fuel powered vehicle. .
This truck gets 5% better fuel economy than stock, it has a longer engine life due to a lack of contaminates in the fuel source, and maintenance and service intervals have been extended by 30%. Because it no longer uses diesel as its main fuel source, a particulate trap filter is no longer required. Oil changes are cut in half and there is less vibration in the drive train, helping the driver avoid early fatigue. It is half as quiet at the original engine, and you might just have trouble hearing the engine if you are not close enough. It’s C.A.R.B. certified, and meets 2020 emission standards already. It cost just $157.50 to fill the 90 gallon tank, has a Nox rating of .14% and uses the largest selling alternative fuel in the world. Propane, otherwise known as Autogas, is one of the cleanest burning and safest fuels globally. .
The propane tank is 20 times stronger than the OEM tank, and come in many sizes. You can have a propane refill tank installed in your own fleet yard for very little compared to other alternative fuel systems. There is a $32,000 tax credit for this system, plus you start saving on fuel cost from day one. Propane currently has a wholesale cost of $2.25 per gallon, plus there is a $.50 per gallon tax credit as well. The savings are just too big to ignore. .
Clean and simple, that is our goal. .
